Cthulhu

De echtgenoot is grote fan van Cthulhu, een karakter uit de Mythos - verhalen van H. P. Lovecraft.

We hadden een hele mooie vinyl collectors editie die bovenop de boekenkast stond.

Maanden geleden echter kwamen we 's avonds thuis en toen lag Cthulhu op de grond met gebroken tentakels terwijl het bloed aan de muur hing boven de boekenkast.

Wat er juist gebeurd is, zullen we nooit te weten komen.
Misschien vielen de katten elkaar aan, misschien Cthulhu of misschien was het wel Cthulhu die de katten beu was...

De bijna ontroostbare echtgenoot werd dan maar getrakteerd op een grote gehaakte Cthulhu. 

Dezelfde die ik al een aantal keer maakte, maar dan dubbel zo groot en met ijzerdraad in z'n vleugels.

Als deze van de kast valt, zal het zonder bloedvergieten zijn.....

Some months ago, we came home at night and found Cthulhu lying on the ground with some broken tentacles and blood on the wall above the bookshelves.

We'll never know what happened...
Maybe our cats attacked each other, maybe Cthulhu or maybe our god himself was tired of the cats...

The inconsolable husband got a huge crocheted Cthulhu to lighten his spirits.

I already used the same pattern, but this time Cthulhu is twice as big as before and he has some iron wire in his wings to hold them.

If this one falls down our bookshelves, it should be without bloodshed....

Pride and Pudding

Ik ga wat reclame maken...

In Aalst is er een heel gezellig koffiehuis, Philimonius, waar je naast koffie en thee ook kunt snuisteren in originele boeken, kaartjes, juwelen en hebbedingen.

 Ik ben fan...al sinds ik er de eerste keer binnenstapte. Het feit dat de barista, Jo, opgeleid is als beroepspianist heeft er misschien ook wel wat mee te maken. Mooie klassieke muziek op de achtergrond en rust, geen overweldigende drukte....een plek waar je op je gemak kan zitten.

Een bezoek aan Aalst gaat dus steevast gepaard met een bezoek aan Philimonius en met lege handen vertrekken is telkens moeilijk.

Mijn laatste aankoop is een pareltje voor wie van kookboeken houdt. In het boekenrek vond ik "Pride and Pudding" terug van Regula Ysewijn. Een schitterend kookboek over de geschiedenis van de Britse keuken, meer specifiek over de "puddings". Allemaal traditionele recepten van de middeleeuwen tot nu, met originele ingrediënten, maar waar nodig aangepast zodat je het ook in een moderne keuken kan klaarmaken. Het hele boek is fantastisch geïllustreerd met foto's en tekeningen.

Een must have voor iedereen die fan is van Groot Brittanië en zijn keuken, maar evengoed voor al wie houdt van een mooi boek :-).

There is a really cosy coffeebar in Aalst, Philimonius, where you can drink coffee and tea but you can also sniff around in all the books, cards, jewelry and gadgets.

I'm a fan...since the first time I entered. The fact that the barista, Jo, has been educated as a professional pianist, might have something to do with it :-). Classical music fills the background, no overwhelming hustle and bustle, just peace and quiet....a place where you can be at ease.

So every time we visit Aalst, we visit Philimonius and we rarely leave with bare hands.

My latest purchase is a real pearl for all who loves cookery books. On the bookshelf I found "Pride and Pudding" by Regula Ysewijn. A magnificent cookbook about the history of British food and more specific about the English pudding. It's filled with traditional recipes going from the middle ages till now, all original recipes but adapted if necessary to be able to cook them in a modern kitchen.
There are some really great pictures and illustrations in the book.

It's a must have for all who loves Great Britain and its food :-), but also for all those who just love beautiful books.

Casper

De geboorte van Casper begin augustus heeft er voor gezorgd 

dat ik kennis gemaakt hebt met Casper & Hobbes.

De avonturen van het jongetje en zijn tijger hebben me de voorbije maanden al dikwijls doen lachen. Evengoed heb ik veel herkenning gevoeld bij een aantal situaties.

Ondertussen heb ik een aantal cartoons verzameld. 

Het leek me leuk om er hier af en toe eentje te delen.

Op 1 oktober heb ik een nieuwe start gemaakt. 

Opleiding gedaan, nieuwe job in het vooruitzicht, verkenning alom...

Casper verwacht trouwens ook nog een levensechte gehaakte Hobbes 

die hier ook een plekje gaat vinden.

getting to know Calvin & Hobbes. The dutch translation of Calvin is Casper ;-).

The adventures of this little boy and his tiger made me smile the past few months. 

I also recognized a lot of the situations.

I've collected a lot of the cartoons and it seemed 

like fun to share them here from time to time.

October 1 meant a new start for me. 

The end of a year of training, new job perspective, starting a lot of exploration....

Casper is expecting a lifesize crocheted Hobbes which will be shown here also.
