Grandville

Bijna een jaar geleden dat ik nog eens iets postte.

Nochtans heel veel projectjes die klaar liggen om gefotografeerd te worden.

Haakwerk, miniatuurtjes en nog een paar dingen.

Hopelijk lukt het om dit de komende weken/maanden te doen zodat ik meer dan eens per jaar iets kan posten.

Hier in elk geval al een paar foto's van Grandville.

Een strip waar ik grote fan van ben, getekend en geschreven door Bryan Talbot.

It's been almost a year since I last posted something here.

There are a lot of projects waiting to be photographed.

Crochet, miniatures and some other stuff.

Hopefully I'll find the time to do this during the next weeks/months so you won't have to wait another year before I post something.

Nelly Kraken

Weer eens een miniatuurtje geschilderd.

Deze keer eentje uit de reeks van Scale 75 Smogriders

Ze heet Nelly Kraken.

En opnieuw zorgde de echtgenoot voor de basis met zand en een schelpje.

I painted another miniature.

This time it's one from the Scale 75 Smogriders.

She's called Nelly Kraken.

And again the husband made a very nice base with sand and a small seashell.

Winter Mouslings

Een leuk diorama om de winter mee te starten.

Een set van Reaper Miniatures die de Mouslings en de sneeuwman bevat. 

Het kerstboompje is taartdecoratie :-).
Dankzij de echtgenoot is het geheel een mooi winters tafereel geworden.

The christmas tree is cake decoration :-).
Thanks to the husband it's a very nice winter tableau.

Hawaiiaans verjaardagsfeestje - Hawaiian birthday party

Amai, het is lang geleden dat ik hier nog eens iets schreef.
Er is zoveel gebeurd. Veel te veel en veel te persoonlijk om hier te vertellen.
Maar! Er zijn ook een aantal dingen gebeurd die ik jullie wel wil tonen.

Zoals mijn verjaardagsfeestje :-).
Sinds kindertijd geen feestjes meer gehad dus als je 35 wordt, mag er nog wel eens gevierd worden.

So much has happened. Too much and too personal to tell you.
But! There are some things I want to tell you :-).

Like my birthdayparty :-).
I haven't had a party since I was a small kid so becoming 35 meant party time.

Pictures from the start to the end, beach and sea, drink and food, from Aloha to pirate.

Mandala's haken - Mandala crochet

Mindfulness is niet echt mijn ding, maar haken dan weer wel dus ja, toen ik dit boekje zag liggen, was de beslissing snel gemaakt.

Haken ontspant me en wat maakt het uit of ze het nu mindfulness noemen of niet.

Rond haken is eens wat anders dan amigurumi of granny squares.

Rond haken in het klein is me te klein. Elk patroon wordt dus wat uitvergroot door het toevoegen van extra rondes.

Dit zorgt wel voor wat extra pruts- en telwerk, maar het is me gelukt.

Ook door gebruik te maken van dikke draad kan voor een leuk en groot resultaat zorgen.

De eerste mandala is gehaakt met haaknaald 7 en is meer dan een meter in diameter. Ideaal voor wie een "groot" vloerkleed wilt.

De tweede mandala is met haaknaald 3,5 gehaakt, veel kleiner dan de eerste (ongeveer 60 cm diameter) en is niet echt geschikt als vloerkleed, maar misschien meer voor in de badkamer of om op een tafeltje te leggen.

I don't really like mindfulness, but I like crochet so when I saw this book the decision didn't take long.

I can relax with crochet so whether you call it mindfulness or not doesn't matter.

It's fun to crcohet circles in stead of amigurumi or granny squares.

The original patterns are too small for me. I've enlarged every pattern by adding lines or by using thick yarn.

It takes some trial and error and a lot of counting but it worked for me.

The first mandala is made with a hook size 7. It's diameter is more than a meter. Ideal for those wanting a "large" rug.

The second mandala is made with hook size 3,5. It's much smaller (around 60cm diameter) and not a real rug, but more a small carpet (bathroom?) or maybe you can put it on a table.

Gehaakt monstertje - Crocheted monster

In het boek dat ik gebruikt heb voor de gehaakte vleermuis stond ook een leuk monstertje.

Vrij recent heb ik het eindelijk kunnen afwerken.

Als ik heel kritisch mag zijn, is het eigenlijk niet volledig geslaagd.

De achterpoten zijn vrij veel groter dan op de voorbeeldfoto in het boek.

Al bij al ben ik er wel tevreden over.

Het was een heel leuk patroon om te haken en het is een superleuk, schattig monstertje geworden.

In the book I used for my crocheted bat I found a pattern for a funny little monster.

Recently I finished it.

When I am really critical, I have to say that the finished monster is not completely like it should be.

The hind legs are larger than shown on the picture in the book.

But all in all I'm happy with it.

I had fun with the pattern and it's a supercute, funny little monster.

Gehaakte vleermuis - Crocheted Bat

Een tijd geleden kocht ik een haakboekje met Halloweenfiguurtjes.  

Halloween mag dan al lang voorbij zijn, maar mijn vleermuis is nu pas afgewerkt.

De figuren zien er klein uit, maar eigenlijk ze allemaal heel groot.

De pompoen en het spook zijn ook klaar, maar die toon ik later nog wel eens.

Ik ben zó blij met dit resultaat dat ik niet kon wachten om het te tonen.

Ze zijn gehaakt met haaknaald 3,5 dus niet wat je dik kan noemen.

Ze is ongeveer 20cm hoog met platte oren en de vleugelspan is toch een dikke 35 cm.

Some time ago I bought a book with crochet patterns for Halloween.

I know Halloween has already passed, but I just finished this bat.

The figures look small, but in the end they are all fairly large.

I also made the pumpkin and the ghost, but I'll show those later.

I'm soooo happy with this bat that I couldn't wait to show you.

I used a crochet needle size 3,5.

The bat has a height of approximately 20cm with flat ears and a wingspan of more or less 35cm.

Cthulhu

De echtgenoot is grote fan van Cthulhu, een karakter uit de Mythos - verhalen van H. P. Lovecraft.

We hadden een hele mooie vinyl collectors editie die bovenop de boekenkast stond.

Maanden geleden echter kwamen we 's avonds thuis en toen lag Cthulhu op de grond met gebroken tentakels terwijl het bloed aan de muur hing boven de boekenkast.

Wat er juist gebeurd is, zullen we nooit te weten komen.
Misschien vielen de katten elkaar aan, misschien Cthulhu of misschien was het wel Cthulhu die de katten beu was...

De bijna ontroostbare echtgenoot werd dan maar getrakteerd op een grote gehaakte Cthulhu. 

Dezelfde die ik al een aantal keer maakte, maar dan dubbel zo groot en met ijzerdraad in z'n vleugels.

Als deze van de kast valt, zal het zonder bloedvergieten zijn.....

The husband is a huge fan of Cthulhu, a character of the Mythos - tales by H. P. Lovecraft.

We had a very nice vinyl collectors edition that stood on top of our bookshelves.

Some months ago, we came home at night and found Cthulhu lying on the ground with some broken tentacles and blood on the wall above the bookshelves.

We'll never know what happened...
Maybe our cats attacked each other, maybe Cthulhu or maybe our god himself was tired of the cats...

The inconsolable husband got a huge crocheted Cthulhu to lighten his spirits.

I already used the same pattern, but this time Cthulhu is twice as big as before and he has some iron wire in his wings to hold them.

If this one falls down our bookshelves, it should be without bloodshed....

Nieuwe knopen - New buttons

Onlangs kocht ik een leuke gilet. Perfect zoals ik ze graag heb met pluizige wol, niet te lang en niet te kort. Alleen de knopen vond ik maar saai. Goud is sowieso al niet mijn kleur, maar dat vond ik onvoldoende reden om de gilet in de winkel te laten hangen.
De zoektocht naar leuke, nieuwe knopen begon dus. Knopen die een weerspiegeling zijn van mij in plaats van "saai goud".....
Ik heb er gevonden :-).!

Recently I bought a lovely knitted vest. It was just the way I like it: fluffy wool, not too long or too short. But I didn't like the buttons. I don't like gold. It's not my colour, but that's no reason not to buy the vest. So I started looking for new buttons. I wanted buttons that are a mirror of who I am in stead of "plain gold"....
I found them :-)!

Doodshoofd kleuren - Colouring a skull.

Het heeft maanden geduurd, maar eindelijk is de kleurplaat waar ik laatst aan begonnen was afgewerkt. Het is er eentje uit "Het betoverde woud" (Johanna Basford).

Verandering van job en nog veel meer heeft er jammer genoeg voor gezorgd dat er weinig tijd overblijft voor hobby's.

It took me months, but I finally finished the colouring picture I started latest. It's a picture from "The magical forest" (Johanna Basford).

A change of job and much much more changes resulted in too little time for hobbies.

Gehaakt Aapje - Crocheted Little Monkey

De tandenfee had aan het dochtertje van een collega beloofd dat ze een cadeautje zou brengen als ze haar eerste tandje verloor. Ondertussen was het dochtertje haar eerste tandje al even kwijt, maar de tandenfee was nog steeds niet langs gekomen. De collega had het idee in haar hoofd dat het cadeau een gehaakt aapje moest worden. Ik liet haar kiezen uit 2 patronen en begon aan mijn taak als tandenfee.

Ze had natuurlijk voor het moeilijkste patroon gekozen en er werd hier en daar toch wel wat gevloekt op de onduidelijke instructies. Al bij al ben ik toch nog tevreden met het resultaat.

Dochtertje is ondertussen dolblij met het aapje en niemand (zeker broerlief niet) mag het ook maar aanraken.

The toothfairy had promised the little girl of a colleague of mine that she would bring a present when she lost her first tooth. Meanwhile the girl had lost her first tooth, but the toothfairy hadn't brought her anything yet. My colleague had the idea that the present should be a crocheted monkey. I had 2 patterns to choose from and started my temporary job as toothfairy.

Unluckily for me my colleague had choses the most difficult pattern and several swearwords were used while trying to decipher the unclear instructions. All in all I'm quite happy with the result.

The little girl is in love with her cuddly toy and nobody (especially not her brother) can touch "her" monkey.

Gentse Feesten 2016

Ik hou niet van grote massa's en veel lawaai, maar nadat ik vorig jaar hoorde dat het er op het Luisterplein rustig aan toe gaat, vond ik de tijd rijp om nog eens een poging te doen om naar de Gentse Feesten te gaan.

Het programma van het Luisterplein werd nauwkeurig bestudeerd en we besloten om te gaan kijken naar Jelle Cleymans en Guido Belcanto. Uiteindelijk ook 2 van mijn favoriete Nederlandstalige zangers dus op dat vlak zou het al goed zitten.

I don't like big crowds and a lot of noise, but last year someone told me that the Luisterplein is very nice and a rather "quiet" place. So I thought it was time to make a new attempt and go to the Gentse Feesten.

We studied the program of the Luisterplein and chose the day when Jelle Cleymans and Guido Belcanto would perform. They are two of my favourite singer-songwriters so that would be great already.

De namiddag begon met een korte stop op Mardi Gras om daarna te gaan eten bij Amatsu.

Op Mardi Gras genoten we van wat Franse chansons in een New Orleans Jazz jasje gebracht door accordeon, gitaar en contrabas.

Amatsu is een traditioneel Japans restaurant in Gent, maar ook wie liever sushi eet, is er evengoed welkom.

We started the afternoon with a short visit to Mardi Gras. There we enjoyed some French chansons in a New Orleans Jazz fashion played on accordion, guitar and bass. Later on we went for diner at Amatsu. This is a traditional Japanese restaurant in Ghent. A great place for all who loves Japan and its traditional food but also for sushi-lovers.

Het Luisterplein:

Mooi op tijd om een goede plek uit te zoeken waar we alles konden zien en toch niet in de massa stonden. Vanop dat plekje heb ik genoten van de muziek en van het lichtspektakel op het podium. 

We arrived nicely on time to pick out the best and most quiet spot. We could see and hear everything but we weren't in the mass of people. I perfectly enjoyed the music and the lights on stage from my spot.

De tweede concerten heb ik grotendeels gevolgd vanop het scherm van mijn fototoestel. De ideale manier trouwens om je net wat minder bewust te zijn van de hoeveelheid mensen die aanwezig waren.

Het was ook het ideale moment om wat te experimenteren met de instellingen van mijn toestel. Zo heb ik ook eindelijk ontdekt hoe ik foto's kan nemen van licht :-).

I used my camera most of the time to look at the stage. It's the ideal way to enjoy the concert without looking at or becoming to much aware of the crowd. It was also the perfect way to experiment with some settings on my camera. I finally discovered how to take pictures of lights :-).

Kleine Hobbes - Small Hobbes

Ondertussen is ook de kleine Hobbes klaar en wacht die ook vol spanning op z'n nieuwe eigenaar.

Een kleine vriend voor de grote Hobbes en een grote vriend voor de kleine Hobbes.

Hopelijk vinden ze allebei evenveel liefde en vriendschap als de leuke stripduo.

Meanwhile I finished small Hobbes and he's waiting anxiously to go to his new owner.

A small friend for the giant Hobbes and a big friend for the small Hobbes.

I hope they will find as much love and friendship as the comic duo.

Reuze Hobbes - Giant Hobbes

In oktober vertelde ik al heel kort over Casper en de levensechte Hobbes die ik voor hem ging maken.

Sinds gisteren is Hobbes klaar. Ik maakte dankbaar gebruik van het patroon dat ik hier vond.

Voorlopig zal hij nog wat groot zijn voor de kleine jongen, maar dat zal snel veranderen.

Hopelijk worden ze even onafscheidelijk als de twee stripfiguurtjes. 

Een vriendje om mee te spelen, om mee te praten, om vanalles tegen te vertellen. Een vriendje dat kan troosten, dat er altijd is en niet oordeelt. Een vriendje om kattekwaad mee uit steken en om de spoken en monsters van onder het bed te jagen.

Een vriendje....

I told you in October about Casper and the giant Hobbes I wanted to crochet for him.

Yesterday I finished Hobbes. I used the pattern that I found here.

For now Hobbes will be too big for the little boy, but that won't be a problem for long.

I hope they will be as inseparable as the characters in the cartoons. A friend to play with, to talk to. A friend to comfort him, who will always be there and never judges.

A friend for pranks and to chase away the ghosts and monsters under the bed.

Kleuren voor volwassenen - Colouring for adults

Duidelijk evolutie merkbaar tussen de eerste kleurplaten en de laatste :-).

Je dagen vullen als je tijdelijk maar 1 arm kan gebruiken, zorgt er voor dat je je op allerlei vlakken aanpast. Ook op het vlak van daginvulling en hobby.

De hype "kleuren voor volwassenen" is hier ook niet onopgemerkt voorbijgegaan en ik ben eigenaar van enkele hele mooie kleurboeken van Johanna Basford. Dit zijn echte kleurprenten voor volwassenen waarmee je uren zoet bent en ik heb heel veel zoete uren momenteel.

Eventjes vergeten dat die ene arm tijdelijk zo lastig, pijnlijk en vervelend is. 

Eventjes genieten van kleuren met een luisterboek of een mooie cd op de achtergrond.

Filling your days when you can only use 1 arm, forces you to adapt on every level, even daily pursuits and hobbies.

The hype "colouring for adults" passed on our doorstep also and I am the owner of some of the books of Johanna Basford. Really beautiful colouring plates which take hours to complete and I have a lot of time at the moment.

Forgetting for a while that my arm hurts and irritates me.

Enjoying the forgetfulness for a while by colouring with an audiobook or a nice cd in the background.

Pikachu

De Minion had succes en ik kreeg de vraag of ik het zou zien zitten om een Pikachu te haken :-).

Ik heb nooit naar Pokémon gekeken en weet met moeite hoe Pikachu er uit ziet, maar dacht dat er wel een patroon te vinden zou zijn.

Er is toch serieus wat zoekwerk aan te pas gekomen om een mooi patroon te vinden. Uiteindelijk had ik er een stuk of 4 die in aanmerking konden komen en de "vrager" heeft dan mogen kiezen welk patroon hij het mooiste vond. 

Eind september was Pikachu klaar. Hij was een pak moeilijker dan de Minion, maar de nieuwe eigenaar is er heel tevreden mee dus ik ook :-).

The crocheted Minion was a succes and I was asked if I would be able to crochet Pikachu.

I never watched Pokémon and I barely know what it looks like, but I thought there would be some patterns online.

Finding a good pattern wasn't easy. In the end I had 4 patterns and the new owner had to chose which pattern he liked the most.

At the end of september I finally finished Pikachu. The Minion was much easier to make :-). But the new owner is very happy with the result and so am I.
